Mikhail Botnikau, the Chairman of the Association "Beach Soccer Federation" of the Republic of Belarus, has been accused of corruption and repressions against athletes. He allegedly put six football players under pressure to withdraw their signatures expressing their civic position and condemnation of violence committed by the Belarusian authorities. When they refused to do so, Mr. Botnikau reportedly dismissed them, which resulted in their placement on a blacklist for any employment and deprivation of their right to work.
Mr. Botnikau's conduct severely violates the fundamental human rights of Belarusian athletes, coaches, and sports specialists. Moreover, his alleged corruption undermines democratic institutions and civil society. These accusations highlight the ongoing repression and intimidation of those who express their opinions in Belarus. The Belarusian authorities have faced widespread criticism from the international community for their actions against individuals and organizations that oppose the regime.
