Former Russian national football team player Roman Shirokov has publicly expressed support for Russia's actions in Ukraine.
Shirokov, who retired from professional football in 2019, made the remarks during a recent interview, where he stated that he believes in Russia's actions in Ukraine and that he is proud of his country.
Shirokov's comments have been met with backlash from many, including football fans and members of the Ukrainian community.
This is not the first time that Shirokov has been at the center of controversy. In 2020, he was fined and temporarily suspended from his coaching position after assaulting a referee during a match.
