Arkady Dvorkovich

Arkady Dvorkovich, the President of the International Chess Federation, has come under fire for publicly expressing his support for Russia's military intervention in Ukraine. As the head of the Skolkovo Foundation, which is involved in the development of Russian military technologies, Dvorkovich's endorsement of the country's actions has raised concerns about his involvement in supporting military aggression.

His stance has triggered widespread criticism and condemnation from the international community. Many argue that individuals holding influential positions within sports organizations should prioritize promoting peace, diplomacy, and respect for human rights, rather than endorsing or supporting military ventures.

By the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 123/2026 of 16 February 2026 the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine was enacted, imposing sanctions on a number of Russian athletes and sports officials who justify Russia’s war against Ukraine and are involved in activities supporting the aggressor state.
