Українська делегація в США: досвід роботи з молоддю з інвалідністю та безбар’єрні підходи

У межах візиту української делегації до Сполучених Штатів Америки відбулася зустріч в Університеті Вашингтону (University of Washington), присвячена системі підтримки дітей та дорослих з інвалідністю.

У зустрічі взяла участь заступниця Міністра молоді та спорту України Уляна Токарєва.

Візит проходить на запрошення Радниці — уповноваженої Президента України з питань безбар’єрності Тетяни Ломакіної в межах реалізації Національної стратегії зі створення безбар’єрного простору в Україні, ініційованої Першою леді України Оленою Зеленською.

Під час зустрічі йшлося про роботу з молоддю з інвалідністю як про процес, що допомагає молодим людям робити власний життєвий вибір — не замість них і не за них, а поза рамками очікувань і рішень батьків.

Також обговорили питання зміни ставлення суспільства до молоді з інвалідністю — як до активних учасників життя громади, здатних брати відповідальність й впливати на середовище навколо себе.

У фокусі розмови також була інтеграція молодих людей з інвалідністю у ширші спільноти, а не лише у замкнені групи, а також роль середовища у створенні відчуття приналежності та включеності.

Окрему увагу приділили підтримці батьків, які можуть допомагати молоді з інвалідністю робити самостійний вибір, підтримуючи її прагнення до незалежності та участі в житті спільнот.

«Отриманий під час зустрічі досвід стане корисним для подальшої роботи Міністерства молоді та спорту України над розвитком молодіжної політики та впровадженням принципів безбар’єрності у роботі з дітьми та молоддю», — зазначила Уляна Токарєва.

Участь у зустрічі також взяли: Тавара Гуд — директор Національного центру культурної компетентності та заступник директор Центру розвитку дитини та людини Джортаунського університету, Келлі Банкерс — ініціатива «Співпраця з глобальних проблем дітей», Тобі Лонг — професор кафедри педіатрії Джортаунського університету та Джилліан Хубнер — виконавча директорка Співпраці з питань глобальних дітей в Джортаунському університеті.

Візит відбувся також завдяки підтримці благодійної організації Direct Relief.

Ukrainian delegation in the USA: experience of working with youth with disabilities and barrier-free approaches

As part of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the United States of America, a meeting took place at the University of Washington (University of Washington), dedicated to the system of support for children and adults with disabilities.

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Ulyana Tokarieva, took part in the meeting.

The visit took place at the invitation of the Adviser – the President of Ukraine’s commissioner for barrier-free accessibility, Tetiana Lomakina, within the framework of implementing the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine, initiated by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

During the meeting, the discussion concerned work with youth with disabilities as a process that helps young people make their own life choices – not accept those made instead of them or for them but operate outside the framework of parents’ expectations and decisions.

They also discussed the issue of changing society’s attitude toward youth with disabilities as active participants in community life, capable of taking responsibility and influencing the environment around them.

The conversation also focused on the integration of young people with disabilities into broader communities, and not only into closed groups, as well as the role of the environment in creating a sense of belonging and inclusion.

Specific attention was paid to supporting parents who can help youth with disabilities make independent choices, supporting their aspiration for independence and participation in the life of communities.

“The experience gained during the meeting will be useful for the further work of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine on the development of youth policy and the implementation of barrier-free principles in work with children and youth,” Ulyana Tokarieva noted.

The meeting was also attended by: Tavara Good – director of the National Center for Cultural Competence and deputy director of the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development, Kelly Bankers – the “Collaboration on Global Children’s Issues” initiative, Toby Long – professor of the Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University, and Jillian Hubner – executive director of the Collaboration on Global Children’s Issues at Georgetown University.
